Is planning permission required ?

From 1st October 2008 , a submission for Planning Permission may be required for impermeable surfaces like Tarmac, Concrete and Block Paving.

The purpose of this new regulation is to prevent storm water drains from being unnecessarily overfilled during periods of heavy rainfall due to over development. These regulations apply to the area between the front of the house and the road if the area is over 5 square metres.

We can use various drainage systems to drain the rainwater into the surrounding areas i.e. using Acco drains, Soakaways or French drains. On particularly poor drainage areas, or where soakaways are too close to the property, we are allowed to use the storm drains.

Providing every effort is made to drain the driveway of accumulated rainwater into the sub soils beneath , we will NOT require planning permission.

Our trained site surveyor will check all the options available to ensure all requirements are met.
